Delicate and singular representation of Krishna in his infantile form, known as Balakrishna, one of the most popular and devotional iconographies of Hinduism. The scene shows the god in a daily and playful attitude, grinding or manipulating a container, alluding to the episodes of his childhood in which, according to tradition, he stole and consumed butter (makhan), symbol of both abundance and the sweetness of devotion.
The figure, sculpted in sandstone, stands out for its expressive naturalism and narrative character: the infant body, of soft and dynamic proportions, is combined with a rich ornamentation - necklaces, bracelets and elaborate hairstyle - that reflects the sculptural refinement of the workshops of western India during the medieval period. The crouched posture and the slight turn of the head provide movement and closeness, humanizing the divinity and facilitating his emotional connection with the faithful.
This type of representation, intended for temples and private devotion, embodies the most accessible and affective dimension of Krishna, where the divine is manifested in the everyday, inviting an intimate and personal relationship with the deity.
