Terracotta.
Provenance: Dutch private collection, 1970's.
Conservation: intact.
Measurements: 13 cm high.
Globular terracotta vessel belonging to the Chupícuaro culture, characterized by its elegant profile with an ovoid body, cylindrical neck and an exvasated rim. It presents a rich polychrome decoration on red engobe, with geometric motifs in cream and black tones arranged in horizontal bands, as well as a stylized central motif of anthropomorphic or symbolic character.
The surface shows a polished finish and a decorative execution typical of this tradition of western Mexico, noted for its aesthetic refinement and compositional balance. It is a representative example of Mesoamerican pre-classic ceramics, appreciated for the harmony of its forms and the complexity of its designs.
