DESCRIPTION

Sculpture of the god Ptah. Ancient Egypt, Lower Epoch, 664 - 323 B.C.
Hardened limestone.
Provenance: Private collection, Marquis Pierre d'Achangès (1886 - 1973), France.
Conservation: Good state of preservation.
Measurements: 10,5 cm high.

Sculptural head representing the god Ptah, one of the main divinities of the Egyptian pantheon, associated with creation, craftsmanship and trades. The piece shows the characteristic features of Egyptian iconography, with a serene face, almond-shaped eyes and skull covered by a tight skullcap, a distinctive element of this deity.

The modeling presents a stylization typical of the Low Period, where archaizing forms inspired by previous periods are recovered, with an emphasis on frontality and idealization. The polished surface of the stone and the natural veins of the material add visual richness to the whole.

This type of representation was part of votive or funerary contexts, intended to ensure divine protection and continuity in the afterlife. A small format specimen but of great iconographic interest, with an outstanding provenance, which reinforces its attractiveness for archaeological collecting.
