Amulet of Thoth depicted as an ibis, made of faience and dated to the Egyptian Low Period (664-332 BC). It is a small piece conceived as a protective and votive object, in which the figure of the sacred animal appears carefully synthesized, respecting the essential features of the ibis: the curved beak and the elongated silhouette that characterizes it.
Thoth was one of the most important divinities of the Egyptian pantheon, associated with writing, wisdom, calculation and sacred knowledge. Considered the scribe of the gods, he was attributed the function of recording the judgment of the dead and maintaining the balance of the cosmic order. His usual representation was that of an ibis or an ibis-headed man, due to the symbolic connection between this animal and observation, intelligence and precision.
During the Late Epoch, the use of religious amulets intensified markedly, reflecting a process of democratization of beliefs and a growing concern for personal protection and the afterlife. In this context, faience figurines, a material associated with rebirth and regeneration due to its blue-green coloration, became widespread.
