DESCRIPTION
Oriental potiche. China, 20th century.
Carved and polished green jade.
With movable side handles and a lid topped with a Fo dog.
With a carved and openwork wooden base.
Measurements: 15 cm (figure); 17 cm (total); 3 x 11 x 9 cm (base).
Chinese potiche carved from green jade, with a globular body resting on three supports and side handles shaped like zoomorphic masks, from which movable rings hang. The lid is crowned by a Fo dog, a common protective motif in the Chinese symbolic repertoire, while the body features understated decoration that highlights the stone’s green hue and its polished finish.
The piece follows the models of Chinese ritual vessels, reinterpreted in a decorative style during the 20th century. The hallmarks include the solidity of the central volume and the ornamental detail of the handles, the supports, and the upper rim. It is displayed on a carved and openwork wooden pedestal, featuring a perimeter frieze and plant motifs.
