Rectangular porcelain casket with rounded corners and a domed lid, adorned with a figurative scene. The piece features meticulous decoration executed in polychrome glazes and gold highlights, enriched with finely chiseled bronze mounts. The lid is dominated by a scene of gallant inspiration, depicted in a reserved area evoking 18th-century French pastoral compositions. The rest of the surface is organized into a succession of oval cartouches decorated with delicate naturalistic flowers on a white background—an ornamental repertoire of great finesse that highlights the virtuosity of the porcelain painters. The edges are embellished with geometric borders and gilded motifs that frame the decoration and enhance the luminosity of the glaze.The bronze mount, consisting of an openwork perimeter molding and a profusely ornamented central clasp, reflects the Neo-Baroque style so highly prized in Central European production of this period.
This type of object was produced by prestigious German manufacturers during the Wilhelmine era, a time of extraordinary development in the industrial arts. Inspired by 18th- and 19th-century French models, these chests were intended for a bourgeois clientele that appreciated the technical quality of the porcelain and the refinement of cabinet pieces.
