Martín Echegaray García was a painter belonging to the generation of renovating artists of the Galician art of the 20th century. He developed much of his career in Paris, where he assimilated influences of modern European figuration and the classical period of Picasso, creating a painting of volumetric forms, simplified and very refined. His works usually represent female figures, popular scenes and themes linked to the Galician tradition, but treated with a modern and elegant language, far from the anecdotal costumbrismo. In addition to his artistic facet, he belonged to a bourgeois and republican family of Vigo very marked by the exile and the Civil War; after settling in France he never returned to Spain.
