A lively drawing executed in wax crayons. The figure of the mother, standing next to the baby carriage, is rendered with quick, expressive strokes, combining black contour lines with touches of color that bring the scene to life. The composition reflects Heinrich Zille’s interest in ordinary people and everyday life in Berlin, depicted with a direct, spontaneous, and intimate perspective.

Heinrich Zille was a German draftsman, illustrator, photographer, and printmaker, best known for his scenes of everyday life in Berlin. His work focused on working-class neighborhoods, their inhabitants, and their daily environments, which he depicted with a fluid, incisive style imbued with deep human emotion. Associated with the Berlin Secession, he developed a highly recognizable body of graphic work that blended social commentary, humor, and critical observation. His work is represented, among other institutions, at the Zille Museum in Berlin and the Berlinische Galerie.
