DESCRIPTION
Jean Gillon, set "Amazonas" for Italma. Brazil, c. 1970
Wood, steel and linen.
Measurements: 72 x 90 x 80 cm (armchairs); 52 x 90 x 46 (ottoman).
Brazilian pair of armchairs and ottoman in exotic tropical solid Louro Freijó wood, stainless steel and hand-knotted natural rope structures, with linen upholstered cushions. It was designed by Jean Gillon and manufactured by Italma Wood Art in Brazil, circa 1970. It has been carefully restored, respecting its original finishes, maintaining the natural tone of the Louro Freijó wood and reupholstering the cushions with a new linen canvas of the same type. Jean Guillon named this armchair "Amazonas", also called "Bahia", in homage to the fishermen of the area, whose traditional nets inspired him to design the hand-knotted ropes that support the cushions.
