Convair swivel armchair, designed in Norway in the 1970's by Oddmund Vad, an iconic piece of late-modern Scandinavian design that perfectly reflects the experimental and optimistic spirit of its time.
This seat is characterized by an enveloping and continuous silhouette, with an almost circular volume that embraces the body and generates an immediate sensation of comfort. Its aesthetic, clearly influenced by the futuristic imagery of the 1970s, combines generous curves with a sculptural presence that makes it a protagonist in the space. The structure rests on an integrated rotating base, which adds dynamism and functionality without altering the formal purity of the whole.
The interior is generously padded and upholstered in leather, offering a comfortable and luxurious user experience, while the external support in curved wood provides solidity, stability and a warm contrast to the technological character of the form. This combination of materials evidences a very successful balance between formal innovation and Nordic craftsmanship tradition.
Oddmund Vad is one of the most outstanding Norwegian designers of the 20th century. His work is distinguished by a bold approach to form, an interest in ergonomics and a clear desire to explore new types of furniture. During the 1960s and 1970s he developed pieces that today are considered benchmarks of modern Scandinavian design, with special attention to comfort, quality of materials and expressiveness of lines.
