GUILLERME (1913-1990) ET CHAMBRON (1914-2001) for VOTRE MAISON.
Set of four chairs. France, ca.1960.
Oak wood.
Measurements: 80 x 50 x 46 cm (each).
This set of four chairs embodies the essence of the collaboration between Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron, the influential duo that redefined post-war French furniture. Founded in 1949, their firm Votre Maison was distinguished by the masterful use of solid oak and a formal language that balances structural solidity and organic lines with a strong sculptural presence.
The chairs have a robust oak structure, characterized by its constructive coherence. The backrest, a distinctive element of the model, has a gently curved design with a lower openwork opening, a frequent feature at Guillerme, which adds visual lightness without compromising the firmness of the whole. This combination of mass and formal fluidity is one of the most recognizable features of his production.
These pieces were conceived for domestic comfort, a concept central to the whole philosophy of Votre Maison, which deliberately moved away from industrial coldness to embrace a handcrafted warmth of great authenticity.
Today, Guillerme et Chambron's work has experienced a remarkable resurgence in the international vintage design market, being especially valued within the French Mid-Century Modern movement. Its ability to integrate into contemporary interiors that prioritize noble materials and honest design makes this set - which retains its characteristic 1960s patina - a highly attractive proposition from both an aesthetic and a collector's point of view.
