DESCRIPTION
BRUCE TIPPETT (Boston, Lincolnshire, 1933 - 2017) for Gavina / Knoll International.
Adjustable sculptural coat rack model "Renna". Italy, 1970s.
White lacquered wood.
Early edition, with original label.
Original vintage specimen. It shows signs of use according to its age.
Measurements: 195 x 95 cm.
Iconic Renna coat rack, designed by Bruce Tippett in the seventies and produced by Gavina, later incorporated into the Knoll International catalog.
The piece is composed of a central pole in white lacquered wood from which emerge curved and rotating arms arranged at different levels. The mobile articulation allows its configuration to be adjusted, combining functional versatility with a sculptural presence of strong formal identity. Its dynamic and organic silhouette makes it an element of great spatial impact.
Bruce Tippett was a British artist and designer. He trained at the Leicester College of Art in London. After a first solo exhibition in London in 1958, he was awarded a French government scholarship that allowed him to live in Paris between 1959 and 1962, where he came into contact with the new American painting and developed an experimental approach to materials.
From 1965 he worked in the United States and was linked for years to the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York. At the same time, he collaborated as a designer with the Italian firm Gavina, integrating his artistic sensibility into the field of furniture design.
