DESCRIPTION
Ceiling lamp space age; 70s.
Chromed metal and glass lampshades.
Measurements: 40 x 64 x 64 cm.
The space age ceiling lamp from the 1970s that is part of one of the most suggestive moments of international design, when the fascination with the space race and the futuristic imaginary permeated both visual culture and everyday objects. This type of pieces, mass-produced but with a marked sculptural character, reflect the technological optimism of the era after milestones such as the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, which promoted an aesthetic oriented towards the cosmic, the dynamic and the experimental.
Formally, the lamp has a central structure in chromed metal from which emerge several arms that support blown glass lampshades. These lampshades, with organic and slightly convex shapes, house visible light bulbs. Around them, a series of concentric metal rings generate a visual play of orbits and movement, evoking planetary trajectories or atomic models. This compositional resource is characteristic of space age design, where geometric repetition and the sensation of weightlessness seek to break with the functionalist rigidity of previous modern design.
