DESCRIPTION
ÅKE FRIBYTTER (Sweden, 1922- 1998).
Kroken" armchair, ca. 1970.
Rosewood and leather.
Exhibits subtle wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 86 x 75 x 100 cm.
Armchair with organic and enveloping lines, representative of the Scandinavian design of the 1970s. The rosewood structure, with its elegant continuous curvature, defines a fluid profile that combines visual lightness and constructive solidity.
The generously upholstered leather seat and backrest adapt to the structure, creating a sense of suspension and comfort. This balance between ergonomics, material warmth and formal sophistication is characteristic of Åke Fribytter's work.
Fribyter worked for Carl Malmsten in the early 1950s. In 1961, together with Ingvar Carlsson, he created the Mysingen furniture series. Fribyter also designed the Classic chair for Gemla Möbler AB and the Kroken recliner for Nelo möbler in 1974.
