DESCRIPTION
Safari rocking chair; c. 1960.
Exotic wood and natural leather.
Measurements: 100 x 85x 50 cm; 61 cm (armrest height); 45 (seat height).
Wooden rocking chair with leather seat and back, combining functionality, comfort and a very clear aesthetic language. The seat and backrest are made of stretched leather strips, providing flexibility and ergonomic comfort. The design is open and visually light, despite the solidity of its materials. The armrests and vertical elements are well proportioned, suggesting careful carpentry work.
This type of chair is part of a tradition that mixes rustic, colonial and modernist furniture influences. The use of stretched leather is reminiscent of safari or campaign chairs, originally designed to be resistant, transportable and comfortable in hot climates. Here, however, that logic is adapted to a more permanent domestic format.
