Table lamp of Spanish origin, dating from the vibrant decade of the 70s. This luminaire is a magnificent design exercise that drinks directly from the geometric and sophisticated language of the great masters of Italian design, clearly evoking the unmistakable structural style of Vico Magistretti.
The piece stands out for its impeccable visual architecture, based on the purity of the basic geometric shapes: the disk, the cylinder and the cone. It sits on a solid and elegant circular base of white marble with subtle veins, giving it an undeniable monumental character and a balanced visual weight. From its center emerges a slender cylindrical stem of fluted design, which gracefully elevates the great protagonist of the composition: a large and spectacular conical shade in polished brass finish.
The rich reflective gold finish gives the piece a sophisticated glam aesthetic, very representative of the luxury interiors of the 1970s. Its design is not purely aesthetic, but also functional; the inverted funnel shape of its shade directs the light downward, creating a focused and intimate beam, ideal for bathing an office desk, sideboard or side table in warm light.
Vico Magistretti was an Italian industrial designer, dedicated to furniture and architecture. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic in 1945, and became a follower of Ernesto Nathan Rogers. During the 1950s he devoted himself to the design of mass-produced furniture. Some of his lamps are famous, such as the so-called Eclisse. Some of his designs are present in important museums in Europe, the United States and Japan. The MoMA in New York houses objects by Magistretti in its permanent collection.
