DESCRIPTION

ROGER FÉRAUD (France, 1925-1999).
Standing coat rack. France, circa 1950-60.
Black lacquered metal rod and polychrome wood spheres.
It shows wear in the paint according to the use and age, without affecting its stability and functionality.
Measurements: 181 cm height; 51 cm diameter.

Coat rack of foot constructed in metallic rod lacquered in black, whose structure is developed as a sculptural composition of curved and dynamic lines that expand in the space with lightness. At the ends, the hangers are topped with polychrome wooden spheres in bright colors, bringing a playful and vibrant accent to the whole.

The ensemble responds to a language characteristic of post-war French modernism, where functionality is integrated in a natural way with a marked decorative vocation. The rhythmic arrangement of the rods, together with the chromatic contrast of the spheres, turns the piece into an object of strong personality, iconic within the auxiliary furniture of the 20th century and fully representative of Roger Féraud's work.

Roger Féraud was a sculptor and designer known mainly for his decorative pieces in metal, especially during the 1950s to 1970s. His work is situated at the intersection between sculpture and functional object, within the French post-war decorative arts tradition. He specialized in the creation of wall sculptures, screens, coat racks and decorative elements made of wrought iron and lacquered metal, often painted in bright colors. His compositions usually incorporate stylized figures, musical motifs, characters, animals or everyday scenes, resolved with a graphic, light and almost sketchy language in space. Féraud was part of a generation of creators who explored the artistic character of the domestic object, in line with other French designers and sculptors of the time. His pieces, sometimes produced in limited series, were widely distributed internationally and today are representative of French decorative design in the mid-twentieth century, appreciated both for their aesthetic value and for their playful and expressive character.
