DESCRIPTION
TOSHIYUKI KITA (Osaka, 1942) for Casas (Spain).
Set of six "Kumo" chairs. 1989
Aluminum frame with epoxy finish and thick leather upholstery.
Produced only for a short period of time.
Very good condition.
Measurements: 80 x 57 x 42 cm.
Set of six "Kumo" chairs, designed by Toshiyuki Kita for the Spanish firm Casas in 1989 and produced only for a short period of time, a circumstance that accentuates its uniqueness.
They feature an aluminum frame with epoxy finish and seat and backrest upholstered in thick leather. The design stands out for the extraordinary resolution of the armrests, which extend from the backrest in a continuous, almost suspended line to define the lateral support. This solution gives the whole a fluid and very characteristic elegance, where ergonomics, visual lightness and formal expressiveness are balanced with great precision.
Toshiyuki Kita is a leading figure in international design, with works held in collections such as the MoMA in New York and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. His career has been recognized with important awards, including the Delta de Oro in Spain and the Compasso d'Oro for his international career in Italy, as well as the title of Commendatore of the Italian Republic.
