Table lamp designed by René Broissand in 1972. The lamp adopts a stylized zoomorphic silhouette that refers, in a suggestive way, to the figure of a bird or fantastic creature. This evocation is not literal, but filtered through a language close to Surrealism and certain organic drifts of late Modernism. The ascending structure, marked by a sinuous and continuous line, generates a vertical tension that culminates in the lamp holder, naturally integrated into the composition without breaking its formal unity.
The treatment of the material reveals a meticulous attention to the surface. The transitions between volumes are smooth, almost liquid, suggesting a high-quality casting and modeling process. The metallic patina, with its tonal variations and reflections, adds visual depth and underlines the sculptural character of the piece. In contrast, the cylindrical marble base introduces a counterpoint of stability and weight, both physical and visual, anchoring the dynamic verticality of the upper body. From a structural perspective, the lamp achieves a remarkable balance between apparent fragility and actual solidity. The stylized, almost filiform limbs defy gravity visually, but are resolved with sufficient technical rigor to ensure stability.
