DESCRIPTION
PIETRO CHIESA (Milan, 1892 - Paris, 1948), for Fontana Arte.
Art Deco ceiling lamp. Design 1930s.
Fontana Arte edition, 1950s.
Glass and chromed metal.
Measurements: 90 x 70 x 70 cm.
Ceiling lamp according to Art Déco design by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte. The piece synthesizes the geometric elegance of Italian Art Deco with the technical refinement that made Fontana Arte a reference of modern design.
The ensemble is articulated by a large circular glass disk, a reflective chrome glass and suspended prisms of greenish glass, which generate rhythm, depth and a delicate play of transparencies. The composition combines formal precision, visual lightness and sculptural presence, with a material quality characteristic of the firm's best production.
Pietro Chiesa was one of the leading exponents of Italian Art Deco. After training in Milan, he opened his own workshop in 1921 and participated in the 1925 Paris International Exhibition of Decorative Arts. In 1927 he co-founded Il Labirinto with Gio Ponti, Venini and other creators of the Italian Novecento. From 1933 he was artistic director of Fontana Arte, where he developed an essential production in glass, furniture and lighting, marked by pure forms, technical refinement and an innovative use of glass.
