DESCRIPTION
GAE AULENTI (Palazzolo dello Stella, Italy, 1927-Milan, 2012) for Vistosi.
Lamp "Neverrino".
Blown murrine glass.
Measurements: 25 x 19 x 19 x 19 cm.
This table lamp belongs to the Neverrino series, designed by Gae Aulenti for the firm Vistosi. Made in green blown glass with murrine decoration, it is an excellent example of the renewal of Italian design in the second half of the twentieth century, in which the tradition of Murano craftsmanship was reinterpreted through a contemporary language. The chandelier stands out for the chromatic richness and technical complexity of its production, based on the incorporation of murrines -small sections of colored glass with decorative motifs- to the blowing process, a technique characteristic of the Venetian glassmaking tradition.
Gaetana Aulenti (1927-2012) studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, where she graduated in 1954. Considered one of the most influential figures of Italian design and architecture of the 20th century, she developed a multidisciplinary career that encompassed architecture, industrial design and scenography. Among his most outstanding projects are the transformation of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the renovation of the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, the Italian Pavilion for the 1992 Universal Exposition in Seville and the remodeling of the Palau Nacional de Montjuïc in Barcelona, the current home of the MNAC.
