The "Utrecht" armchair, designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1935, was published by Cassina in its collection of great icons of modern design. It has an emphatic and architectural structure, defined by clearly differentiated geometric volumes: sloping back, low seat and rectangular armrests that extend to the floor, creating an image of great constructive strength.

The beige fabric upholstery, finished with the characteristic exposed stitching in red thread, underlines the structural clarity of the design and provides a refined graphic contrast. In the "Utrecht", Rietveld transfers to the furniture the principles of balance, abstraction and functionality that marked his career, creating an armchair of sculptural presence and great comfort, conceived as a domestic architecture on a human scale.

Gerrit Thomas Rietveld was an architect, designer and one of the fundamental figures of the De Stijl movement and 20th century European design. Author of iconic works such as the "Red and Blue" chair and the Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht, his work transformed the relationship between space, structure, color and function. His designs are part of important international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Vitra Design Museum, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
