This nine-light ceiling lamp belongs to the I Goti Luminosi series, one of the most representative collections of Barovier & Toso's contemporary production. Made of patinated iron and Murano blown and mottled polychrome Murano art glass, the piece combines the excellence of Venetian glassmaking tradition with a clearly postmodern formal language. Its organically developed arms support cylindrical diffusers inspired by the traditional goti da fornasa, the vessels used by the Murano glass masters, reinterpreted here as luminous elements of great expressive force.
Each lampshade presents a unique chromatic composition in shades of blue, yellow, green, orange and white, the result of an elaborate artisanal process that makes each specimen a unique piece. The apparent spontaneity of the shapes, together with the chromatic richness of the blown glass, generates a sculptural composition of great visual dynamism, where light acts as a transforming element that highlights the transparency, textures and nuances of the material.
Stylistically, I Goti Luminosi reflects the tendency of late 20th century Italian design to reinterpret historical tradition from a contemporary perspective. Barovier & Toso, one of the most prestigious firms of Murano, manages to merge the centuries-old artisanal heritage of the island with the formal freedom and playfulness of postmodern design, resulting in a luminaire that transcends its utilitarian function to become a true sculptural work.
