DESCRIPTION
Pair of lotus-shaped vases. North India, ca. 1920
Carved marble.
They present small restorations in three finials.
Measurements: 34 x 45 x 45 cm (each)
Elegant pair of vases sculpted in the shape of lotus flower, a motif of deep symbolism in the Indian tradition, associated with purity, regeneration and spirituality. The carving, organic and enveloping, displays a succession of curved petals that generate a harmonious volumetric rhythm, evoking models of Mughal architecture and ornamentation, where this motif was widely used in fountains and decorative elements.
The natural patina of the marble, softly tinged by the passage of time, brings warmth and authenticity to the whole. These types of pieces, produced in northern India during the first third of the 20th century, combine traditional craftsmanship and decorative function, and are particularly appreciated for their ability to blend into both classical interiors and contemporary spaces.
