Removable anatomical model head, conceived for didactic purposes in the context of medical education in the early twentieth century. The piece reproduces with remarkable verism the bony structure of the human skull, incorporating opening systems by means of small lateral springs that allow the separation of the calotte for internal study.
This type of mechanical solution responds to a clear pedagogical purpose: to facilitate the three-dimensional understanding of anatomy.
Objects like this, halfway between science and craftsmanship, are today especially valued both by collectors and for their aesthetic power within the imaginary of vanitas.
