DESCRIPTION
SANTI MOIX (Barcelona, 1960)
Untitled, 1998
Bronze.
Exemplary 6/6.
Signed, dated and justified.
Measurements: 80 x 67 x 22 cm.
Sculpture of strong organic charge in which the form seems to arise from a vital impulse, almost in growth, with a dense and vibrant surface that preserves the direct trace of the modeling. The piece is located in that characteristic territory of Moix where abstraction and natural suggestion coexist, generating an ambiguous, disturbing and deeply poetic presence. The tension between verticality and horizontality reinforces its dynamism, making it a work of great spatial intensity.
Based in New York, Santi Moix is one of the most internationally renowned Spanish artists in contemporary art. His practice, which encompasses painting, drawing and sculpture, develops as a unique process in which all languages feed back into each other. Awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 2002, he has exhibited in leading institutions and galleries in Europe and the United States.
His work, present in important collections, is characterized by a visual universe of its own, with organic roots and great gestural freedom, where each piece is conceived as part of an ongoing investigation. Sculpture, in this context, acquires a special value by transferring to volume the pictorial energy that defines his language.
