After an apprenticeship as a goldsmith and years of travel, including a stint in Spain, Faltermeier studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1936 to 1943 with Joseph Wackerle, Ernst Buschor and Hans Jantzen. During the Nazi era, he was a member of the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts. His participation in ten group exhibitions during this period is documented, including the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich from 1938 to 1944 (except 1941), where he exhibited a total of 14 works. He worked in accordance with Nazi artistic principles, creating war memorials (Soldier with Hand Grenade, Bad Neuenahr, 1939). After a long stay in fascist Spain, he returned to Munich in 1960. From 1966 until his death in 1999, he lived in the village of Piesenkam, where he died at the age of 89. Faltermeier's preferred working materials as a sculptor were bronze, marble and wood.
