Made at the end of the 19th century, L'Alerte reflects the interest of the French academic sculpture for the heroic representation and the anatomical study of the human body. The work shows a naked warrior surprised by a sudden threat, captured in an instant of restrained tension as he wields his sword. The relevance of this sculpture is evident in the conservation of copies in institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes, which demonstrates the recognition of the work within the French artistic heritage.Stylistically, the piece is part of French academicism, characterized by technical rigor, anatomical precision and inspiration in classical models. Bonduel demonstrates a remarkable mastery of modeling, highlighting the musculature and body expressiveness through a careful naturalistic observation. The dark patina of the bronze reinforces the solemn character of the figure and contributes to accentuate the hallmarks of light on the surface, giving the work a powerful and evocative presence.
