Yan Huang, actress and creator, based in Madrid since 2006, was born in the city Zhang Jia Gang in Jiang Su province, on the banks of the Yangtze River in southeastern China. His stage creations range from theater, gestural theater, performative theater, to scenic poetry and performance, in which images, voice, words, song and movement have always had an important role to play in different spaces and times.
This work is part of the anthology La tierra giró para acercarnos, a project promoted by the Ministry of Culture on the occasion of the VIII Foro Cultura y Ruralidades held in June. In this context, the artist recounted her migrant experience in the intervention entitled "From today, my memory will be my root" and conceived a series of performances carried out in "the old house" and in the meadows of the Soria village of Carrascosa de Arriba. This series of photographs were later exhibited in October 2025 in Geografía Rizomática, a group show of migrant artists held at Espacio Lu (Madrid), where Huang also presented a work-in-progress performance action, linked to his research on body, territory and memory.
Her works have been presented in important cultural institutions such as Matadero Madrid, the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona, the Real Fábrica de Artillería de Sevilla, Tabakalera-Centro Internacional de Cultura Contemporánea, Teatro del Barrio and KVS Brussels, among others. She was awarded Best Actress for the feature film Buffet Libre at the FilmQuest 2025 International Film Festival (USA) and is the author of the poetry book Crecer como hierbas salvajes (La Parcería Edita, 2023).
