The importance of the album in bidding is due to the fact that it constitutes a direct and unique testimony of the beginnings of modern international sport, especially of the first Olympic Winter Games (Chamonix 1924), which marked the official birth of this discipline. Beyond its personal value, the album visually documents the evolution of the sport, the venues, the athletes and the atmosphere of a time when competitions were still in formation and had a much more pioneering character. Moreover, by including events in different European cities (Milan, Prague, Davos), it offers an exceptional insight into the international network of sport in the 1920s, making it an invaluable historical source for understanding both the sporting culture and the social context between the wars, something difficult to reconstruct with such immediacy and authenticity by other means.

A member of the Cercle des patineurs anversois ice hockey club and the Belgian national team, André Poplimont placed fourth at the 1924 European Championships in Milan and finished seventh at the 1924 Olympic Games in Chamonix. He also competed in fencing, placing fourth in the team event and participating in the individual epee event at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
