DESCRIPTION
ÉMILE GALLÉ (Nancy, France, 1846 - 1904).
Art Nouveau side table, ca. 1900.
In walnut, rosewood, elm and fruitwood marquetry.
Signed.
Measurements: 74 x 63 x 40 cm.
Art Nouveau style side table, with a light and sinuous structure defined by legs that start in cabriole and grow as striated stems, so that its organic essence harmonizes with the top and the shelf. Both tops are punctuated with stylized floral bouquets that combine fruitwoods, elm and rosewood with the walnut structure.
The masterful designer Émile Gallé took over his father's factory in 1874, and in a short time achieved great international success, winning prizes at International Exhibitions and selling works to important collections and museums. Today, pieces made by Émile Gallé can be seen in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Orsay Museum in Paris, the Brohan Museum in Berlin and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, among many others.
