Monumental modernist floor lamp, fully representative of the Catalan Modernisme ideal of integration between architecture, applied arts and ornamentation. The structure, made of gilded and polychrome wrought iron, is articulated by means of a helicoidal shaft of marked ascending vocation, from which unfolds a rich ornamentation of stylized plant and floral motifs, executed with remarkable manual virtuosity.
The forging shows exceptional technical mastery: scrolls, leaves and floral elements are organized organically, generating a continuous rhythm that runs throughout the piece, from the tripod base with curved and open supports to the upper zone. The parchment screen, with its curved profile, can be interpreted as an architectural vault, conceived not only as a functional element, but also as a conceptual extension of the architectural language, filtering the light in an enveloping way and reinforcing the spatial reading of the whole.
The attribution to Josep Puig i Cadafalch is based on the clear formal, material and conceptual affinity with his creative universe. A leading figure of Catalan Modernisme, Puig i Cadafalch occupies a central place not only in the history of architecture, but also in the field of the decorative arts, where he developed a conception of the total work that integrated architecture, design and artistic crafts. A disciple of Lluís Domènech i Montaner and author of emblematic buildings such as Casa Amatller and Casa Terradas, he gave a fundamental role to wrought iron, conceived as a structural, ornamental and symbolic extension of the architectural project. This vision, in which design, wrought iron and plant ornamentation are organically articulated, reinforces the formal and conceptual coherence of this lamp with his creative language. Widely studied, exhibited and valued internationally, his work places him as one of the great references of European modernism/art nouveau and as a figure of growing interest in the art market and historical applied arts.
