DESCRIPTION
Spanish baroque style table; Philippines, c. 1860.
Painted solid wood.
Measurements: 81.5 x 172 x 84 cm.
This library table is made of solid wood and combines a base painted in a softly aged gray with a black finish on the top, decorated with subtle white lines that provide a refined visual detail. It features an integrated drawer in the dental area, while its finely turned legs, joined by a crossbar, provide balance and structural strength.
Produced in the Philippines around 1860, during the period of Spanish colonial rule, the table reflects the long local tradition of making furniture in Spanish taste. Such pieces were usually destined for monasteries and families linked to the colonial administration, combining functionality, elegance and decorative character.
An outstanding example of the craftsmanship and refinement of Spanish colonial furniture in the Philippines, it still retains its original presence and charm.
