DESCRIPTION
Ceiling lamp. DAUM NANCY. France, ca. 1925.
Acid etched glass in yellow and white shades.
Signed.
Measurements: 70 x 47,5 x 47,5 cm.
Ceiling lamp made by Daum in acid-etched glass. The piece presents an elegant composition suspended, formed by a central body in the form of open cup, topped by a glass rosette.
The glass work stands out for its delicate combination of tones that provide a warm and nuanced light. The decoration, organized in plant-inspired radial registers, is integrated into the material itself through acid etching, creating a subtle effect of texture and depth.
Its design retains echoes of naturalism but interpreted from a more refined sensibility and closer to Art Deco. The presence of signature and quality of execution reinforce the interest of this lamp within the French art glass collecting between the wars.
Daum Nancy was one of the great French artistic glass houses, founded in Nancy in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Its production, especially recognized for the use of multilayer glass, acid etching and chromatic effects, occupies an essential place in the transition between Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
