DESCRIPTION
GENET ET MICHON (France)
Pair of ceiling lamps, ca.1930.
Molded and pressed glass.
Chromed metal structure.
Signed.
Measurements: 69 x 76 x 76 cm.
Ceiling lamp made by Genêt & Michon around 1930, a French firm especially recognized for its Art Deco lighting creations. The piece presents a floral composition of great decorative effect, formed by molded and satin glass petals arranged radially around a finely worked central heart.
The design combines a chromed metal structure with delicately translucent glass diffusers, capable of generating a soft, enveloping light. Its ornamental language, inspired by refined plant forms, fully responds to the French Art Deco taste, where formal richness is combined with a careful lighting design.
The quality of the glass, the presence of the signature and its elegant sculptural composition reinforce the interest of this lamp within the French lighting collection of the interwar period.
Genêt & Michon was a prominent Parisian firm founded in 1911 by Philippe Genêt and Lucien Michon, both trained at the École Boulle. Specializing since 1919 in luminaires and decorative objects in pressed and molded glass, the house participated in reference salons such as the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the Salon d'Automne, and its designs were integrated in emblematic projects of the Art Deco period.
