DESCRIPTION
Console Philip V; Spain, first half of the eighteenth century.
Carved wood.
It presents faults and restorations.
Measurements: 123 x 107 x 51 cm.
The observed console belongs to the Philip V style, developed in Spain during the first half of the 18th century, in a context of transition between the late Baroque and the French influences introduced by the new Bourbon dynasty. This furniture reflects the courtly taste of the time, characterized by ornamental elegance, the dynamism of curved lines and the search for decorative refinement.
The piece stands out for its elaborate wood carving, visible in the cabriole legs, the undulating chambranes and the sinuous profile of the upper trimmed top. These elements provide visual lightness and movement, traits typical of Hispanic baroque influenced by French rococo. The symmetry of the composition and the richness of the craftsmanship are also evidence of the social prestige associated with this type of furniture, designed to decorate lounges and noble spaces.
