DESCRIPTION
Pair of cups; France, late nineteenth century.
Gilded bronze and Belgian marble.
Presents faults and restorations.
Measurements: 65 x 23 x 19 cm (x2).
Pair of decorative goblets completely made in gilded mercury bronze and decorated with fine carvings of floral theme, garlands and foliage. The bases stand on a square base with feline claw feet, as usual in the aesthetics of the period. Both bases made of Belgian marble are decorated with bronze appliqués simulating lion heads on the sides. The cups, which have a clear classical influence in terms of design and format, depart from this aesthetic towards an independent language reinterpreting motifs of antiquity. An example of this are the female busts that are arranged on each of the handles.
