DESCRIPTION
Spanish frame of the XVIII century.
Carved wood, stuccoed and gilded in fine gold with red bowl on black polychrome background.
Measurements: 68 x 56 cm (interior light); 94 x 82 (total).
Sumptuous Spanish baroque frame of the 18th century, elaborated in carved wood with vegetal decoration in high relief, profusely gilded in fine gold. The ornamental repertoire is composed of scrolls, acanthus leaves and scrolls, carved with remarkable plasticity and depth, which create a dynamic play of light and shadow in contrast with the flat black lacquered background.
This chromatic contrast -between the dark background and the richness of the gold- responds to a typically baroque aesthetic, aimed at exalting theatricality and sumptuousness, and conceived to frame works of great visual presence, whether portraits, religious scenes or still lifes.
