DESCRIPTION
Louis XV style scrivener; France, late nineteenth century.
Gilded bronze and glass.
Measurements: 12 x 32 x 19 cm.
Writing desk with two wells made of gilded bronze. The piece stands out for its sinuous lines and mixtilinear profiles, adorned with details typical of classical antiquity such as scallops or acanthus leaves.
The Louis XV style, also known as rococo, is characterized by its refined elegance, its delicate asymmetry and a taste for ornamentation and intimacy. Emerging in France during the first half of the 18th century, this style reflects a courtly sensibility that favors soft curves, natural motifs such as rocailles, flowers and shells, and a palette of light, harmonious colors. In furniture and decorative arts, the monumentality of the Baroque is abandoned in favor of lighter and more sensual forms, suitable for the private spaces of the aristocracy.
