DESCRIPTION
Pair of candlesticks; France, Napoleon III period, c. 1850.
Patinated bronze.
One of them has signature on the base of one of the feet "H.P".
Measurements: 19,5 x 9 cm (x2).
Pair of French candlesticks made in patinated bronze, belonging to the time of the Second Empire, around 1850, during the reign of Napoleon III. The pieces have a balanced structure and refined elegance, typical of the historicist taste of the mid-nineteenth century. Each candlestick rests on a tripod with curved legs richly ornamented with vegetal motifs and lion claws, evoking the solidity and majesty of the neo-Renaissance style. The shaft, of slender profile and incised decoration, supports a wide circular tray and an upper cup for the candle, also adorned with reliefs of classical inspiration. The dark patina of the bronze enhances the play of light and shadow, giving the pieces a sober and distinguished presence, testimony to the decorative refinement characteristic of Second Empire France.
