DESCRIPTION
Pair of three-light sconces; France, Napoleon III, third quarter of the nineteenth century.
Gilded bronze and mirror.
Measurements: 45,5 x 32 x 21 cm (x2).
Pair of three-light sconces, made in gilded bronze, corresponding to the France of the Napoleon III period, in the third quarter of the 19th century. These pieces eloquently exemplify the eclectic and ornamental taste of the Second Empire, a period characterized by the recovery and reinterpretation of historical styles, especially French neoclassicism of the 18th century.
Each wall lamp presents a symmetrical and balanced structure, dominated by a central body ornamented with motifs of ribbons, garlands and flamboyant urns, elements that refer directly to the decorative language of Louis XVI, reinterpreted here with the richness and exuberance typical of the Napoleon III style. The curvilinear arms support three lights in a radial arrangement, whose cups and bobeches display delicate floral engravings, accentuating the technical refinement of the bronze work.
