DESCRIPTION
THORVALD BINDESBØLLL (Denmark, 1846-1908).
Pair of table lamps, ca. 1900.
Bronze.
In good overall condition commensurate with age. Slight signs of use and patina.
Measurements: 55 x 16 x 16 cm.
Elegant pair of table lamps designed by Thorvald Bindesbøll, in which a refined combination of architectural structure and organic ornamentation can be appreciated. The faceted shaft is articulated by geometric volumes of classical inspiration, enriched by relief motifs of fluid and sinuous character that bring dynamism to the whole. This duality between structural order and free decoration places the piece in the orbit of Nordic modernism of the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries.
Thorvald Bindesbøll was one of the most prominent figures in Danish design and decorative arts, associated with the Art Nouveau movement. Trained as an architect, he developed a wide production ranging from ceramics and metalwork to graphic design, being especially recognized for his ornamental language of organic lines and his ability to integrate tradition and modernity. His work is represented in institutions such as the Designmuseum Danmark, consolidating his relevance within the European panorama of the decorative arts.
