DESCRIPTION
Pair of candlesticks. Italy, 18th century.
Carved and silvered wood.
Measurements: 65 x 70 cm.
Pair of Italian rococo candelabra. They present a structure of wide horizontal development, with sinuous arms arranged in fan and decorated with scrolls, acanthus leaves and vegetal motifs of clear baroque inspiration.
The carving work shows a marked ornamental sense, with moving volumes and cut out profiles that generate a marked scenographic effect. The silver surface, worn by the passage of time, reveals reddish tones and the underlying preparation, providing chromatic depth and an attractive antique patina.
The composition responds to the Italian decorative taste of the 18th century, in which light, the brilliance of the silver and the richness of the carving played an essential role in ecclesiastical and palatial interiors. Due to their paired format, their compositional amplitude and the quality of their carving, they constitute a set of remarkable decorative presence, representative of the Italian baroque tradition in silvered wood.
