A constructivist painter and graphic artist, in 1918, Richard Paul Lohse joined the Max Dalang advertising agency, where he trained to become an advertising designer. In the 1930s, Lohse's work as a graphic artist and book designer brought him to the height of stardom, making him one of the leading exponents of modern constructivism. Success enabled him to establish his own graphic design studio in Zurich. In 1937, Lohse co-founded Allianz, an association of modern Swiss artists, with Leo Leuppi. In 1953 he published the book New Design in Exhibitions, and from 1958 he became co-editor of the magazine Neue Grafik. His style, based on two-dimensional geometric planes that interact in various logical relationships, has led him to participate in numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally. He is currently represented at the MoMA in New York and the Daimler Art Collection, among many other institutions.
