DESCRIPTION
VICTOR VASARELY (Pécs, Hungary, 1908 - Paris, 1997).
Untitled.
Set of four serigraphs, copies 178/250.
Signed and justified by hand.
Measurements: 22 x 22 cm (approx. footprints); 30 x 28 cm (paper).
This set of four silkscreen prints is a clear example of the optical language developed by Victor Vasarely, central figure of Op Art. The compositions are organized from geometric grids that, through the repetition and distortion of its modules, generate a powerful visual effect of volume and movement.
Victor Vasarely is considered the father of Op Art. Trained in Budapest, he settled in Paris in the 1930s, where he developed a language based on geometric abstraction and optical effects.
Among the numerous awards that Vasarely won throughout his life, the Guggenheim Prize (1964), the Art Critics of Brussels and the gold medal at the Milan Triennial stand out. In 1970 he was also named Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor.
He is represented in the museums dedicated to him in Aix-en-Provence, Pécs and Budapest, but also in the most important centers of contemporary art in the world, such as the Tate Gallery in London, the MoMA in New York, the Guggenheim in Venice or the Reina Sofia in Madrid.
