The painting of battles is a common theme in the development of the history of art. This is largely due to the fact that it is a pictorial genre of historical character. Its purpose is linked to propaganda, that is to say, not only to the mere representation of a historical event but also to the virtues and values that they wanted to show to society, associated with that event. Furthermore, at the compositional level, the historical theme allowed for the depiction of figures in addition to landscape, i.e. it encompassed other genres in its representation. This is why it became one of the most widely recognised by the academy.
