Although treated with a harmonious and balanced aesthetic, this dramatic scene represents one of the moments of the Passion of Christ: Jesus goes, with the cross on which he will be executed, on his way to Mount Calvary. The figures behind the Nazarene, the Virgin, Veronica and another woman, possibly Mary Magdalene or the Virgin's sister, weep in grief. Behind this foreground composed of the main figures of the scene, a panoramic landscape unfolds in which a crowd of characters is crowded together, mainly composed of Roman soldiers on foot.
