This painting of St. Peter shows a clear compositional dependence on the famous model of José de Ribera preserved in the Museo del Prado (Madrid), St. Peter (inv. no. P001072). The affiliation with the Ribera prototype is evident both in the conception of the monumental bust of the apostle and in the psychological intensity of the face, characterized by a concentrated and serious expression that refers to the naturalism of the Caravaggist roots.
However, the work introduces significant variations with respect to the Prado original, especially in the chromatic treatment. Unlike the usual green and yellow tones traditionally associated with the iconography of St. Peter, here the painter opts for a darker and more restrained range, dominated by deep ochers and dense shadows. This chromatic choice reinforces the dramatic character of the scene, intensifying the luminous contrast and accentuating the introspective and penitential dimension of the saint.
From the material point of view, the canvas retains its original inscription, an element of notable interest for the study of its reception and possible historical contextualization.
