In the absence of clear iconographic attributes, the work up for auction cannot be identified with certainty as a specific biblical or mythological episode, so it is more likely to be a genre scene of moralizing inspiration, centered on the virtues of filial piety, generosity, or reconciliation. Formally, the Baroque style is refined and controlled, with a smooth surface on which brushstrokes are barely perceptible.
