DESCRIPTION
EDUARDO PELAYO FERNANDEZ (Cuba, 1850-1901).
"Santander.
Oil on panel.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 22 x 32 cm.
Painter of Cuban origin, he lived and painted in Spain. He painted in oil and watercolor. He practiced the genre costumbrista, landscapes and portraits with a post-impressionist technique of loose and fast brushstroke, and a rich palette from which he knew how to extract a varied tonal gradation. Paintings of bucolic and poetic character, which envelop us with the mist of idealized times. A painter born in Casablanca (Cuba), he was a disciple of Emilio Sala in Madrid. He presented in the National Exhibition of 1876 "A soldier abandoned in the field"; in the ones celebrated later by Mr. Hernandez, Bosch and the Society The Watercolor he exposed "An idyll", "Twilight", "A dancer". Pelayo, who was a great friend of the painter Casimiro Sainz, died in 1901.
